Old Trails - Eastport Peninsula
For the serious hiker and pleasure walker alike, the old Historic Trails stretching over the hills from Salvage to Sandy Cove will provide one of the most memorable experiences of your visit.  This 9 km corridor of trails – some of which are, in fact, centuries old – has traditionally linked generations of families in the coves and the harbours of the peninsula.  These trails offer great vistas of the headlands, coves, harbours and islands…all the way to Cape Bonavista and Cabot Island on a clear day! Hike the Turpin’s Trail, named after the legend of Michael Turpin, this trail provides history, folklore, and spectacular scenery as well as a challenging walk or moderate hike. The trail is 9 km long (approx. 2 hours) and winds along the rugged coastline of Tilting, gradually sloping to one of Newfoundland’s rare sandy beaches, (aptly named Sandy Cove Beach), where the trail levels off and then proceeds to climb to steeper elevations.
